چکیده

In 1887, Mayr described four species of the ant genus Strumigenys collected in Brazilian state Santa Catarina: unidentata, subedentata, denticulata, and crassicornis. All them were based on a series one to several specimens, without designation holotype, as usual at that time. The same can be said about eggersi, by Emery 1890 specimens Saint Thomas (U.S. Virgin Islands), holotype. 1961, Brown designated lectotype for S. unidentata synonymized it under louisianae. However, belonging type other remain syntypes. Considering these are most frequently Neotropical region, this work we provide designations complete redescriptions crassicornis, subedentata ensure taxonomic stability names

Habitat preferences of Strumigenys ants in western Japan (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)

The ant tribe Dacetini contains more than 800 species (Bolton et al. 2006). Many dacetine ants are specialized predators on soil inhabiting arthropods such as Collembola, Acarina, and to some extent also Diplura (Brown and Wilson 1959; Masuko 1984, 2009ab; Wilson 1953). Due to their peculiar morphological characteristics related to this specialized predation, dacetine ants have attracted the in...

Dominant Ant Species in Four Habitats in Hawaii (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)

The Hawaiian Islands represent one of the few ecosystems in the world that lacks native ants and thus represents a unique environment in which to study invasion biology. In the course of a study of behavioral interactions among invasive ant species, we collected the most abundant ants from four different field sites on the islands of Oahu and Hawaii. One year after the original collections, we ...

Redescription and lectotype designation of the endemic South African mayfly Lestagella penicillata (Barnard, 1932) (Ephemeroptera: Teloganodidae).

The imago and nymph of Lestagella penicillata are redescribed based on historic specimens and new material from Table Mountain slopes (Skeleton Gorge and Window Stream), Western Cape, South Africa. A male from Barnard's syntype series is designated as the lectotype. Wear-and-tear of mouthparts, particularly the mandibles, has led to errors in identification of diagnostic characters for the nymp...

Taxonomic status and redescription of Magneuptychia nebulosa (Butler, 1867) (Lepidoptera, Nymphalidae, Satyrinae) with a lectotype designation

A redescription of Magneuptychianebulosa (Butler, 1867), a poorly known euptychiine butterfly, is given here, and accurate distributional data are provided for the first time. Taxonomic status of this taxon has been discussed by comparing its morphology against its possible congeners. In addition, lectotype designation for Magneuptychianebulosa is provided in order to objectively establish the ...
